Manufacture and Testing of Fire-Resistant Doors Using De-Inker Sludge (1998)

Summary:

A technology was developed to cast cores for fire-resistant doors using a significant amount of de-inker wastes from the recycled paper recovery process. Prototyping and burn testing of doors manufactured were conducted. In testing, the door was certified to a 60-minute burn test, passing both the fire and hose stream portions of the test. Difficulties bonding the edge system to the door core occurred, but slight modifications to the door manufacturing process would resolve this issue.
