CWC Releases A Guide To California’s 2023 Pay Data Reporting Requirements

February 22, 2024

What's New

CWC has updated its guide for meeting California’s annual pay data reporting requirements. The new version covers the rules for filing 2023 calendar year data, which must be submitted to California’s Civil Rights Department by May 8, 2024. CWC’s guide provides tips on identifying the data that must be reported and steps to take when pulling data. CWC also has updated the sample communication template for members to give to their labor contractors to help them provide required information.

Under the new requirements, filers’ data uploads must distinguish between remote and non-remote workers. When covered employers report the number of their workers by race, ethnicity, sex, pay band, and federal EEO-1 job category, they now also must identify: (1) the number of California workers that do not work remotely; (2) the number of remote workers in California; and (3) the number of remote workers outside California.

Furthermore, filers now must identify their California Secretary of State (SoS) Number when completing the “Employer Information” section in the California Pay Data Reporting Portal.

What It Means

The changes in reporting requirements for 2023 are likely to increase the burden on filers.
