A group of 21 Democratic state attorneys general has sent a letter to Fortune 100 companies describing the importance of DEI programs. The Democrats sent the letter July 19 to counter an earlier letter sent to the same group by by 13 Republican AGs warning the companies that their DEI practices must not discriminate on the basis of race.
The Democratic AGs’ letter characterizes the Republican AGs’ letter as an attempt to intimidate employers into “rolling back the progress” that many companies have made. The Democrats’ letter states that DEI programs are “vital to the well-being of our society” and that workplace DEI initiatives help combat inequities and make good business sense. The Democrats’ letter further explains that the Supreme Court’s recent college admissions ruling does not impose new limits on private sector employers’ pursuit of DEI initiatives.
The Democratic AGs state that they will “vigorously oppose any attempts to intimidate or harass businesses who engage in vital efforts to advance diversity and expand opportunities for the nation’s workforce.”
