EEOC Releases EEO-1 Component 2 Pay Data From 2017 and 2018

March 21, 2024

What's New

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has made available to the public a new Data Dashboard based on data that the agency collected from employers for calendar years 2017 and 2018. The dashboard allows users to review and sort aggregate EEO-1 Component 2 pay band data.

What It Means

EEOC Chair Charlotte Burrows said the release of the Component 2 aggregate data can illuminate the problem of sex- and race-based pay disparities. Certainly the release of the dashboard and the Chair’s comments indicate that the EEOC is likely to reinstate some form of pay data collection requirement.

What You Should Do

Even though the data are now more than five years old, employers may find value in comparing their own data to the data available through the dashboard. However, employers should keep in mind the limitations in the Component 2 data. For example, the data do not reflect any differences in work hours, time in service or seniority, or other factors relevant to employee pay. CWC members may find it useful to discuss these issues with other members through our Collaborate or Conversation Corner features.
