Paid Sick Leave Laws
Many state and local jurisdictions have enacted legislation that goes beyond the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) by requiring employers to provide employees with paid family and/or sick leave for the employees’ own illness or to care for a family member. These laws vary, often substantially, from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and tend to be very specific regarding accrual rates, use limits, carry-over provisions, and permissible uses. CWC’s State and Local Paid Sick Leave Laws tool lays out the key elements of the current state and local paid sick leave laws to help our members navigate their compliance obligations in administering leave to their employees.
