Pregnancy and Lactation Accommodation Laws

Almost half of U.S. states have passed laws granting pregnant and nursing employees the right to accommodations in the workplace. As with many state specific laws, these requirements different from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Several key themes are present across these states, however, including the right for these employees to be free from discrimination and the ability to be granted reasonable accommodations on a temporary basis so long as the accommodation does not present an undue hardship for the employer. CWC’s State Pregnancy and Lactation Accommodation Laws tool lays out the requirements an employer has related to pregnant and nursing employees in an effort to ensure that our members understand their unique responsibilities in this area.
