Salary History Bans

Designed to help end the cycle of pay discrimination and bridge the gap of pay inequity between men and women, a number of state and local jurisdictions have passed laws that bar employers from seeking an applicant’s prior salary history. While these laws typically prohibit an employer from inquiring into such information, they often vary in terms, scope, and applicability. CWC’s State and Local Salary History Ban tool breaks down what state and local jurisdictions have enacted bans on seeking an applicant’s prior salary information and whether any exceptions may apply.
