Veterans' Preference for Private Sector Employers

Many states have enacted laws that permit private employers to voluntarily develop and maintain hiring, promotion, and retention policies that give a preference to those individuals who meet the definition of a veteran or even those who are the spouse or widow/widower of a military service member. In CWC’s State Veterans Preference Laws for Private Employers tool, members can see each state’s applicable provisions relating to the maintenance of such a policy preference and any important definitions that may be applicable.
